The sample Facial Reconstructions shown above feature the same
unidentified person. In certain cases three versions are completed
to aid in identification.

When the teeth have not been damaged after death, a smiling
reconstruction can be completed. The teeth can be a boon for
identification purposes because teeth are the only bones that can
be viewed in life. A distinctive chip, signs of braces or dentures
can be a cue to those who are looking for a lost loved one.

The average reconstruction featuring a neutral expression is the
most often reconstructed. It is the most useful in identification
because the Forensic Facial Reconstruction method used creates
the look of a person in the prime of life. In cases where the
unidentified person may have been older, chances are high that
the people who are looking for them will also recognize the
individual at a younger age.

If there are indications that the deceased may have been of
advanced age, an older version of the reconstruction is completed
to aid in identification and recognition.
